Mary Ann Ramaekers, 91, of Genoa, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa with Fr. Bill L’Heureux celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Genoa. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service at the church. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Pawnee Senior Center.
Mary Ann Ramaekers was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Humphrey, to Frank and Christina (German) Ternus. Mary Ann grew up in the Humphrey area and graduated from Humphrey St. Francis High School. On Aug. 22, 1942, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Joseph H. Ramaekers in San Antonio, Texas. They lived in rural Columbus before moving to Genoa in 1965. Mary Ann worked for many years at Cremers Grocery Store in Genoa and also was a homemaker and stayed home to raise her family. She was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and taught CCD. She played in the Senior Center band and enjoyed traveling, playing cards, crocheting, and gardening. Mary Ann loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Joan (Harry) Greisen of Columbus, Carol (Ed) O’Hearn of Scottsdale, Ariz., Diane (Gary) Hollman of Lincoln and Mary (Tim) Czapla of Genoa; son, Larry (Kathy) Ramaekers of Aurora; grandsons, Joel Greisen, Ward Greisen, Chris Greisen, Brad Greisen, Curt Greisen, Ryan Ramaekers, Drew Ramaekers, Jeremy Hollman, Craig and Zachary Czapla; granddaughters, Lisa Dufficy, Paula, Sroczynski, Gina Naehr, Tara Korth, Tricia Ramaekers, Kendra Gage, Ashley Strain, Valerie Czapla, Sarah Strnad, Kristen Czapla, and Cortney Tuls; 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard “Dick” (Erna) Ternus of Humphrey.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Christina Ternus; stepmother, Gertrude Ternus; husband, Joseph “Joe” Ramaekers; brothers, Art, Joe, George, Jerome, Gene, and Lawrence; sisters, Eleanor and Cecelia; two infant siblings.
