Phyllis M. Friesen - August 03, 2013Phyllis M. Friesen of Greeley, wife of Dr. Roy E. Friesen, lost her struggle with a very aggressive brain tumor (Glioblastoma) at Life Care Center on Aug. 3, 2013.
Memorial services will be held at Greeley Wesleyan Church on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 10:30 a.m. Private family internment services will be held at the Aurora Cemetery on Friday afternoon, with a Celebration of Life and Resurrection service on Saturday Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m., at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora.
Phyllis was born in Grand Island to Elmer A. and Evelyn J. (Nyblom) Palmberg on May 27, 1940, and was raised in the Community of Aurora, where she attended grade and high school. She met the eventual love of her life, Roy Friesen, while attending high school together. Phyllis went to Chicago for three years attending and graduating as a registered nurse from Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing. On Thanksgiving day of 1961 Phyllis and Roy were married, enjoying wonderful years of marriage and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago. They enjoyed their early years of marriage while Roy attended Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, then two years in the US Air Force as base veterinarian in Upper Michigan, one year in New York City where Roy interned at the Animal Medical Center, then five years in Denver, Colo. as an associate at Belcaro Animal Hospital -- eventually moving to Sioux City, Iowa where Roy purchased and operated Perry Creek Animal Hospital until they returned to Colorado, moving to Seeley Lake in 1983.
Phyllis worked as an office nurse in those early years, but was a stay at home mom while her children, Paul and Ingrid, were growing up. She was a very special lady and a very supportive and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and trusted friend too many over these past years. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her and live forever in our hearts. More recently she worked for StarTek (manager of training and quality) for some 10 years, then was employed by Banner Health at NCMC for some six years as a clinical IT liaison, training doctors and providers on Cerner medical software. The last two years Phyllis continued that line of work, training doctors through outside contract services all over the country. She enjoyed that work and the relationships built immensely. She never met a stranger and was the most nurturing and caring kind of personality one can envision. In her spare time, her four grandchildren were the apples of her eyes. She was an awesome grandmother, as the kids would say.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Roy; son Paul (Kim) Friesen; daughter Ingrid (Steve) Lundvall; and granddaughters Brittany and Abby Lundvall and Morgan and Karter Friesen. Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara (Robert) Person and Lorey (Delmer) Wadell and their families; three sisters in-law, (Treva Rosenthal, Pamela Oetken, and Audrey Janzen) and their spouses; numerous nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Faith, parents in-law Peter and Lucille Friesen, and brothers-in-law Glen Friesen and Alan Rosenthal.
