Derek Rodine - July 28, 2013

Derek Duane Rodine, 23, of Polk, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at York General Hospital in York after a car accident near Stromsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk, with the Rev. David Ohlman officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church. Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Derek was born on Aug. 6, 1989, in York, to Duane L. and Brenda L. (Bankson) Rodine. He was baptized on Septm 3, 1989, and confirmed on May 16, 2004, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He selected Joshua 1:9, as his verse, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
He grew up on the family farm near Polk and received his elementary education at Immanuel Lutheran School. He attended high school at High Plains Community School in Polk, graduating in 2008. He continued his education at Concordia University in Seward, graduating in December of 2012. Derek participated in numerous sports, competing in basketball, and eight years of football and track. God blessed his hard work by trips to state and nations in shot, hammer, and weight throw and, more importantly, he was blessed with dear friends he met and made along the way. After college, Derek returned home to farm with his family in Polk.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He treasured the times he spent with Ashley, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his cousins, and hangin at the lake with his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Duane and Brenda Rodine of Polk; the love of his life and precious fiancé, Ashley Fleming of Lincoln; his two big brothers and sister-in-law, Nick Rodine of Polk and Drew and Shauna Rodine of David City; paternal grandmother, Norma Rodine of Polk; maternal grandparents, Marvin and Janice Bankson of Polk; aunts and uncles, Dianne and Alfred L’Heureux of Polk, Donna and Mike Rhoades of Duncombe, Iowa, Deb and Scott Hudson of Polk and Lisa and Chris Lenz of Marquette; and his beloved cousins, Mike and Tammy Flemming, Ethan, Logan, and Wyatt Fleming all of Polk; his teammates and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roland Rodine.
