Jon Oberg - July 02, 2013

Jon Curtis Oberg, 56, of Grand Island, died July 2, 2013, at his home.
Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Reverend Sylvia High Karlsson officiated. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
Jon was born Sept. 17, 1956 at Woodland, Calif., to Jack and Bethel (Strotman) Oberg.
The family moved numerous times while Jon was growing up and after the death of his father in 1971, Jon moved to Grand Island. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1974. He was married to Jerrlyn Boltz on Jan. 29, 1977 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
In his early years, Jon was employed at Pizza Hut in McCook, Aurora and Grand Island. He knew his motors and worked as a mechanic at Captain’s Quarters on Johnson Lake and the Boat House in Grand Island. He had been trucking over the road for the last 10 years and was proud of the fact he had been to 48 states.
Jon was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed all things motorized and mechanical and loved his time spent as part of the pit crew at various stockcar races. A born conversationalist, he loved to visit and have discussion with family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Bethel Kolar of Aurora; his children, Patricia Oberg and Dustin Meyers of Grand Island, Jennifer and Tyler Brei of Marquette and Christopher Oberg of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Polina Oberg of Grand Island; and sister, Jacque Harvey of Aurora; two, soon to be three, grandchildren, Ashley Schafer, Chase Brei and Baby Meyers; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Robert Kolar; paternal grandparents, Vern and Alice Oberg; and maternal grandparents, Fred and Julia Strotman.
