Catherine Newman - April 26, 2013

Catherine Wells Newman, 90, of Aurora, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Memorial Community Care.
A private family graveside service will be held. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hamilton Community Foundation.

Catherine Wells Newman, daughter of Fred and Faye(Teal) Wells, was born in Lincoln on June 21, 1922.
Catherine grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940. She started the University of Nebraska at Lincoln that fall, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Mortar Board. Following graduation she joined the Junior League of Lincoln and volunteered for the Red Cross.
On June 10, 1947, she was united in marriage to John Wright Newman, Jr. in Lincoln. They had two children, Frederick and Catherine.
Catherine joined the Federated Church in October 1950. She was a devoted church member serving on the Women’s Association Committee, Executive Committee and Church Council.
In October 2000, Catherine received her 50-year pin as a member of PEO. She was a proud member or the National Colonial Dames of America -- Nebraska Chapter. Catherine enjoyed playing bridge, at one time she was a member of nine bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include her son, Frederick (Dolores) Wells of East Kingston, N.H. and her daughter, Catherine Jennifor (Carl) Detering of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Carl August Detering, III and Catherine Jennifor Detering, both of Houston, Texas and Margaret Cerecedo Newman, living in Boston, Mass. and Ashley Wells Newman, living in London,United Kingdom. She is also survived by a brother John (Maria) Wells of Lincoln.
The family would like to thank Martina Guzman for her hard work, dedication and loving care of Catherine for over eight years.
