James L. Dibbern - April 08, 2013James L. Dibbern, 72, of Grand Island, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Services will be Thursday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Curran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. There is no public visitation. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Cathedral Square or the Grand Island Humane Society.
Jim was born Jan. 5, 1941, at Grand Island, the son of Harold O. and Florence (Hann) Dibbern.
Jim, grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1959. He married Martha M. Nabity on Dec. 30, 1959, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. They moved to North Platte where Jim was employed with Union Pacific Railroad. He continued his employment with the Union Pacific R.R. in Grand Island in 1961. In 1963 he became a trooper for Nebraska State Safety Patrol in Lincoln. He was promoted in 1967 to begin the newly formed drug/narcotics trafficking division as one of the first three people selected in what is now the largest division of the Nebraska State Patrol. In 1970 Jim began working in the collection department of First National Bank in Lincoln and was later promoted to loan officer. He moved to York, continuing his banking career at York State Bank in 1979, working in collections, and later as vice president/loan/security officer.
He semi retired in 1995, beginning his “travel stage” of life. He and Marty travelled in their 5th wheel all over the US spending winters in the warm south. He loved time spent with his family and enjoyed gardening.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 53 years, Martha M. Dibbern of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy J. (Jennifer) Dibbern of York and Thomas J. (Terri) Dibbern of Aurora; one daughter, Tammy J. DeBoer of York; one sister and brother-in-law, Harolyn and Ronald Miller of Central City; grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Owen, Jacquelyn and Timothy Moser, Katharine Dibbern, Janelle DeBoer, Kristine DeBoer, Michael DeBoer, Nicole DeBoer, Derek and Jamie Dibbern, Daniel Dibbern, Kiley Dibbern, Presten Dibbern, Donovan Dibbern; great-grandchildren, Atley Owen, Reuben Moser, Charleigh DeBoer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence Dibbern.
