James Sine - February 16, 2013James Sine, age 74, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Sanford USD Medical Center, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.
James was born on Jan. 7, 1939 in Lehigh Valley, Penn., to Oscar and Lillian (Leh) Sine. He grew up and attended school in Quakertown, Penn. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served for 21 years. He spent time in many places all over the world including Puerto Rico, Goose Bay, Labrador, and Vietnam. He spent the longest time of his career in Lincoln, Neb.
In 1977 he retired and on June 4, 1977 he married the love of his life, Twyla Larson. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. He worked for the Minnehaha County 911 Emergency Center as a dispatcher for 20 years, retiring in 2001. He then worked part-time for A & B Business Products. He loved to hunt pheasants, fish and work in his yard. His family was the “joy” of his life. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Twyla; three sons: James, Jr. (fiancé Terry), Safford, Ariz., Jack (Donna) of Aurora, and Jay (Mary) of Rockford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren: James III, Analea, Brandon, Jordan, Daniel, Tori, Isaac, Owen, Taylor, and Zach; one brother: LeRoy, Schertz, Texas; two sisters: Orletta Bealer, Quakertown, Penn., and Oleatha (Chuck) Egner, Sellersville, Penn.; two aunts: Joyce Eisenhart, Quakertown, Penn., and Alverna Erney, Bethlehem, Penn.; one sister-in-law: Doris Sine; mother-in-law: Alma Johnson; two brothers-in-law: Roger (Dorothy) Larson, Waconia, Minn., and Arley Larson, Brookings; one sister-in-law: Lazann (Roy) Caudill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: William, Elvin, and Franklin.
