Paul Gerald “Jerry” Johnston, Jr., 57, of Lincoln died Feb. 1, 2013.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the McCain Cemetery, Stapleton. Jerry’s wishes were for cremation. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to NET Foundation for Radio and the Foundation for Lincoln City Libraries.
Mr. Johnston was born Sept. 13, 1955 to Paul, Sr. and Ruth (Neil) Johnston in San Benito, Texas.
Jerry was senior producer at NET Radio, formerly general manager of Open Harvest Natural Foods Cooperative Grocery.
Jerry was a person comfortable enough in his own skin that he was a true friend to many people.
Among his passions and interests: music, his cats, tent camping, Husker volleyball, birding, New Orleans, baseball, outsider art, radio, public radio, theology, languages, Guatemala, meaningful conversations, his nieces and nephews, newspapers, food co-ops, road trips and his 19-year sobriety.
Jerry married Patricia Leach Aug. 11, 1984.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Leach of Lincoln; parents, Toni and Paul G. Johnston, Sr. of Fort Worth, Texas; siblings and families, Neil (Rachel) Johnston of Benton, La., Brian, Katie and Kyle Johnston; Kevin (Janet) Johnston of Arlington, Texas, Annie, Max, Carly and Josie Johnston; Julia Johnston (Kelli McAnally) of Austin, Texas, Ema McAnally; mother and father-in-law, Bob (Loretta) Leach of Aurora; siblings-in-law and their children, Suzanne (Charlie) Eckerson of Springfield, Ore., John and Robert Eckerson; Steve (Donelle) Leach of Aurora, Grant (Beth) Leach, their daughter, Whitney, Greta Leach, Sally Leach; Janelle (Jeff) Wright of Scottsdale, Ariz., Paul (Stephanie) Wright, their children, Ben & Emily, Alison (Franc) Del Fosse, their children, Sawyer, Sydney, Ella and Christian.
