Roberta Sackschewsky - December 31, 1969

Roberta Louise Sackschewsky, 83, longtime resident of the Thayer area, was received into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Grand Island.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Lee Seetin officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Thayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour or to the family for later designation. Condolences may be left for the family at
Metz Mortuary, York is handling arrangements.
She was born March 17, 1929 in rural Hampton to Albert and Marie (Rhode) Joseph. Following high school, Roberta attended college and received her teaching degree. She taught school until her marriage to Delbert E. Sackschewsky on July 15, 1951, at Hampton. The union was blessed with four children: Eileen, Lois, Wayne, and Brenda.
Roberta devoted her life to caring for her home and family. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer where she was active in LWML and enjoyed singing in the choir. She belonged to the Choral Union, where she first met Delbert, also the Ladies Aide and was an officer of AAL. She was also a charter member of the Farmerettes Extension Club. Roberta enjoyed taking care of her flowers, working in her garden, and watching and feeding the birds.
She is survived by her children, Eileen (David) Brhel of Denton, Lois (Gerald) Klone of York, Wayne (Cheryl) Sackschewsky of York and Brenda (Brent) Pedersen of Milford; Roberta’s grandchildren and great grandchildren include Brian (Karen) Brhel and their daughter Haley; Michael (Rita) Brhel and their children Rachel, Emily and Nathan; Timothy (Becky) Brhel; Phillip (April) Sackschewsky and their sons John and James; Valerie (Michael) Wohlgemuth; Melissa Sackschewsky; and Alissa, Andrea and Kevin Pedersen.
Also surviving are her twin brother Robert Joseph of Billings, Mont. and sisters-in-law Arlene Joseph of Hampton and Norma Joseph of Grand Island. She also leaves behind many nieces; nephews; and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Delbert on Dec. 17, 2012; brothers Lawrence, Arnold, Reuben and Gerhard; sisters-in-law Dorothy, Evelyn and Lillian; nephew Don Joseph; and nieces Kathy Zastrow and Betty Sheldon.
