Sylvester F. Beck - December 12, 2012Former Trumbull resident Sylvester “Sid” F. Beck, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.
Rosary will be Friday, Dec. 14, 2012; 7 p.m. at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial, with military rites by Hastings veterans organizations, will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Viewing will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Sid was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Oakdale, to Frank and Helen (Van Ert) Beck. He married Mary C. Eggerling on June 6, 1950, at St. Ludgers Catholic Church in Creighton. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2010. Sid was a farmer in the Trumbull area and was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 4-H leader, Adams County Fair Board and Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association. He was a foster parent for 68 children. Sid enjoyed showing cattle at cattle shows and enjoyed restoring old antique tractors.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Mary C. Beck; son, Alan Beck; infant daughter, Mary Frances Beck; sister, Celestine Fillers; and two brothers, Charles Beck and Robert Beck.
Survivors include his daughters, Monica (Rich) Lloyd of Rutland, VT and Angela (Kenneth) Meyerof Aurora; sons, Neil (Peggy) Beck of Hastings, Raymond (Cheri) Beck of Hampton, Kevin (Gretchen) Beck of Trumbull, Bradley (Debbie) Beck of Hastings, Mark (Cindy) Beck of Juniata, Brian (Tiffany) Beck of Lincoln; daughter-in-law, Janice S. Beck of Hastings; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Arlene Curan, Berneice and John Eisenmenger and Loretta Krause; brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis Beck, Joseph and Cindy Beck and Colene Beck; numerous nieces and nephews.
