May Risden - November 29, 2012

May Risden, 101, of Grand Island, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Wood River Good Samaritan Society.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 3, at the Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora. Rev. John Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.

May Ruth Risden, daughter of John M. and Elizabeth (Knoble) Hefty, was born on the family farm near Stockham on Aug. 22, 1911,.
She grew up on the family farmstead near Stockham where she attended District 2 grade school and graduated from Stockham High School in 1930.
On Dec. 16, 1930, she was united in marriage to George W. Risden at her birthplace near Stockham. Following their marriage they lived and farmed at several locations in the Aurora area. They retired in 1963 at which time they moved to Grand Island. George passed away on March 27, 1974. May continued to reside in Grand Island until she entered the Lebensraum Assisted Living in Grand Island. She entered the Wood River Good Samaritan Society in August of this year.
May attended the Grace Baptist Church in Grand Island.
May enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially liked to spend time in her lawn and garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; daughters, Betty Lewis and Marlene Fredrickson; sisters, Betty Lou Hefty in infancy and Edith Heinen; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Darwin (Joan) Risden of Grand Island; three daughters, Georgene Elge of Aurora, Ruth (Ronald) Stahlnecker of Hudsonville, Mich. and Judy (Larry) Sene of Warren, Ore.; 20 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 41 great-great grandchildren; She is also survived by her sister, Darlene (Albert) Ackerman of Aurora.
