Virginia Berck - October 11, 2012

Virginia Lucille Berck, 96, of Stromsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Shelby United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Hoffer Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg has been entrusted with arrangements.
Virginia was born Aug. 29, 1916, to Agvall and Lucinda (Hennings) Torell on the family farm east of Stromsburg.
She attended country school and graduated from Osceola High School. She attended York College for two years where she received her normal school training and then began teaching country school northwest of Osceola.
On Aug. 21, 1938, Virginia was united in marriage to Vern Conwell Berck on her family farm. To this union five children were born.
Virginia loved farming side-by-side with her husband while raising their family.
Her husband, Vern, died May 5, 1994. Virginia continued living on the farm until moving to the Midwest Covenant Home July 9, 2010, where she resided until her passing surrounded by her family.
She was a member of the Shelby United Methodist Church.
Virginia enjoyed traveling with her husband, fishing, sewing, crocheting, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include two sons, Vaughn (Beverly) Berck of Hampton and Burdette (Delores) Berck of Gresham; two daughters, Twyla (Richard) Hughes of Grand Island and Nola (Monty) Henkel of Broomfield, Colo.; son-in-law Larry Lind of York; one brother, Byron (Donna) Torell of Stromsburg, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Agvall and Lucinda; husband Vern; daughter Betty Lind; daughter-in-law Janet Berck; brother and sister-in-law Quentin and Sylvia Torell; one infant brother and one infant granddaughter, Barbara Kay Lind.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later.
