Doris Schrader - August 31, 2012Doris Marie Schrader entered into her heavenly home on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Fairmont.
Doris was born on May 8, 1931, to Andrew and Anna (Sauser) Beringer in Bellwood. She was baptized on May 17, 1931 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Bellwood, and confirmed in 1940 at Presentation Church in Bellwood.
Doris graduated from David City High School in David City. She was employed as a dental assistant in David City before moving to York, where she was employed at Consumer’s Public Power (NPPD). Doris was a member of the Nebraska Board of Examiners in Dentistry for over 13 years, president of the Nebraska Counsel of Home Extension Clubs and secretary of Advisory Board to the HPC Foundation for Hospice Care. She volunteered many hours to local civic groups including the York American Legion Auxiliary (55 years), 8 et 40, York General Hospital Auxiliary, Lamplighters Extension Club, Hospice Care of Nebraska and a member of the Red Hats.
Doris was married to Earl T. Schrader at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Hampton on Jan. 23, 1955. The Lord blessed them with 54 years and 10 months of marriage and two sons, Thomas and Kent. Doris and Earl moved to York in 1980 where they were members of Emmanual Lutheran Church for the next 32 years.
She was a kind and giving person, always serving others, humble and steadfast. She loved children, working outdoors and was an avid Nebraska football fan.
Doris is survived by son Thomas Schrader of Sutton, grandson Ryan of York and granddaughter Rachelle of Lincoln; son Kent Schrader and wife Catherine and grandchildren Hannah Schrader, Cailyn and Madelyn Dempsey of Pensacola, Fla. Also surviving are sisters Anna Rose Ropp of Omaha, Evelyn Davis and husband Merlyn of Scottsbluff, Marietta Medinger and husband Wilfred of Henderson, Irene Cattani and husband Joseph of Timberlake, Ohio, Barbara Brecka and husband Louis of Octavia, brother LaVerne Beringer and wife Elaine of Octavia, and sister-in-law Sharon Beringer of Omaha, as well as many nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Earl Schrader, parents Andrew and Anna Beringer, brother Francis Beringer, sister Monica Fletcher and husband Richard, infant sister Theresa Beringer, and brother-in-law Wayne Ropp.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Mike Neidow officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. that afternoon at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Hampton. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family.
