Howard Bush - June 26, 2012

Howard I. Bush, 98, of Aurora, formerly of Hordville, died at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Funeral services were June 29 at the First Baptist Church in Hordville with Revs. Jim Parker and Darryl Keeney officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Hordville.

Howard was born on March 8, 1914, at home in Hordville to John and Ida (Peterson) Bush. He grew up in Hordville and graduated from Hordville High School in 1931. For several years, Howard worked in Nebraska City at the orchards and for area farmers, he also worked for farmers in Minnesota and Chappell, Nebraska. One of the highlights of his life was attending the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1933. In 1944, Howard returned to Nebraska to farm the home place.
On June 9, 1948, Howard was united in marriage to Birtie M. Butcher at her parent’s home. They farmed north of Hampton until moving to their own place near Hordville in 1961. Howard farmed in partnership with his brother, Andrew, and he sold seed corn for 35 years. In 2004, Howard moved to Aurora to be near Birtie when she moved to the nursing home. Birtie died on May 29, 2008.
Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hordville, he served as a committeeman for the ASCS and he served on the Mt. Zion Cemetery Board from 1944 until the late 1990s. Howard enjoyed the potluck dinners and playing cards with the residents of Crossroads Court in Aurora, he was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting with people.
Survivors include his daughter and husband, Dorothy (Glenn) Jares of Grand Island; two sisters, Emma Crawford of Arapahoe and Nora Bush of Schuyler; and one brother, Max and Joyce Bush of Great Falls, Mont.
Preceding him in death were his wife and parents; two brothers, Bob and Andrew Bush; one sister, Helen Blender, and an infant sister.
