Sylvia Bittinger - June 01, 2012

Sylvia Bittinger, 84, of Aurora, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 4, at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at York at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aurora Humane Society. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Sylvia Mary Bittinger, daughter of Norman and Hilda Mary (Clewes) Pennance, was born at Crewe, England on Feb. 14, 1928.
Sylvia was born and raised in Crewe, England. She immigrated to the United States in 1948.
On Dec. 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Bittinger at Aurora. Sylvia was a homemaker during her married life. They moved to Fremont where Bob worked and in September of 1955, they moved to Denver, Colo., where he began working for a trucking company. When they lived in Julesburg, Colo. Sylvia did work as a gift shop manager for Sapp Brothers. Bob continued to drive until his retirement on Aug. 30, 1988, when they moved back to Hampton. Bob passed away on April 6, 1997.
Sylvia loved animals and enjoyed working on home improvement projects.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include her sister, Freda Hartzell of Aurora; nieces, Betty (Ray) Makovicka of York, Geraldine Hartzell of Aurora, Norma (Ross) Peters of Hampton and Gail (Mike) Nelson of Aurora; nephew, Craig (Sue) Dallegge of Hampton and many great nieces and nephews.
