Betty Land - March 28, 2012

Betty Land, 86, of Aurora, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Hamilton Manor.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Rev. Mary Scott officiated. Burial was at the Aurora Cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Betty Lou Land, daughter of Ray and Helen (Moore) Grigsby, was born on the family farm near Aurora on June 13, 1925.
Betty grew up on the family farm and attended country school through the 8th grade. She worked at the G.I. Ordinance Plant from 1944 to 1945.
On Dec. 3, 1945 she married Marvel Land in Smith Center, Kan. They both worked hard and started residing and farming southwest of Marquette on the Jack Hartnell farm. They had two children, Dennis and Mary while living on this farm. In the spring of 1952, they begin farming the Harold Stark Farm located five miles north of Aurora. Betty loved working on the farm, tending her enormous garden, raising her chickens, horses and cows. In June of 2010, Betty moved to Hamilton Manor. Marvel died on Jan. 10, 2012.
Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent her time tending her garden and flowers, caring for her cats and dogs, and loved embroidery. After moving to the Manor she discovered her love of bingo and found her competitive side.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvel; son Dennis Land; four brothers, Perry, Don, Albert and Robert Grigsby, an infant brother and sisters, Elizabeth Critel, Bessie Brahmsteadt and Irene Budnick.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Charley F. Moore) Land of Trumbull; daughter-in-law, Carla Land of Aurora; five grandchildren of Dennis and Carla, Janet (Shawn) Miller of Firth, Heather (Dan) Telford of Scottsbluff, Derick (Katie) Land of Aurora, Dustin Land of Lincoln, and Destiny Land of Aurora; four great-grandchildren, Rylee and Cole Miller, Wyatt and Brianna Telford; brother, Jerome ’Bill’ Grigsby and many nieces, nephews and friends.
