Izzy Baker - March 08, 2012

Isabelle “Izzy” June Baker, 79, Colorado Springs, Colo., died Thursday, March 8, 2012.
A memorial service was held March 15 at Cragmor Christian Reformed Church.
She was born June 25, 1932 in Aurora to Albert and Mary Petersen Hoegh. She received her education in the public school, graduating from Aurora High School in 1949. She graduated from North Park College in Chicago in 1953. In 1953 she graduated from Kearney State Teacher’s College in Kearney. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Columbus.
While teaching in the Denver Public Schools, she met her future husband, Russ Baker, when they attended the same church. They were married in Denver on July 22, 1961 and began their married life in Fort Collins, Colo. In 1968 they moved to Colorado Springs with their two children, Doyle and Amy. Izzy assisted Russ in his business for several years.
In 1973, the family was grieved by Amy’s sudden death. They welcomed an adopted daughter, Kimberly, into their hearts and home in 1974. Izzy then worked for The Navigators for several years.
One of her greatest joys was her children and grandchildren, followed by volunteer work.
She is survived by her her son, Doyle (Velda) Baker; her daughter, Kimberly; five grandchildren, Corrin, Audrey, Quentin, Nicholas and Jordan; one brother, Albert Hoegh.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter and her parents.
