Greg Obermeier - March 27, 2012

Greg Obermeier, 50, of Aurora, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Rev. Bill Pavuk will officiate. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Grand Island. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Gregory Gene Obermeier, the son of Melvin and Maryellen (Walker) Obermeier, was born in Grand Island on Jan. 16, 1962.
Greg grew up in the Giltner area and graduated from Giltner High School in 1980. He attended UNL for a year before going to work for Schimmers in Grand Island, Harv’s Farm Supply in Giltner and then Giltner Coop. In 1988, Greg went to work for IAMS, until his health prevented him.
Greg was united in marriage to Barbara Geiger on May 17, 1995 at Silver Bells Wedding Chapel in Reno, Nev. They moved from Giltner to Aurora in October 2000.
Greg was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed rodeos, woodworking, car racing, bowling and watching and cheering for Giltner High School sports.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Aurora; daughter, Brittanie (Nathan) Nelson of North Platte; three sons, Bryce Obermeier of North Platte, Carter Obermeier of Aurora and Dillon Obermeier of Aurora; step-daughter, Georgia Johnston of Kearney; step-son, Robert Johnston of Lincoln; two grandchildren, MaKenna and Alexis; two step-grandchildren, Meghan and Trevin; parents; Melvin and Maryellen Obermeier of Giltner; three brothers, Randall (Deb Bontz) Obermeier of Giltner, Monte (Susan) Obermeier of Giltner and Douglas (Rhonda) Obermeier of Lincoln; sister, Pamela (Dan) Hastings of Giltner; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
