Phyllis LaMont - March 25, 2012

Phyllis LaMont, 89, of Aurora, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Hamilton Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 7, at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel. Rev. Gary Dudder will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Montrose, Minn. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Phyllis Jean LaMont, daughter of Leon Ernest and Susan Adelaide (Munden) LaMont, was born in Iroquois, S.D. on April 21, 1922.
She grew up in Iroquois, S.D. and Howard Lake, Minnesota. Phyllis graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1940. She worked on the Alaska Canada Highway for two years following high school. Phyllis then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving as a yeoman, where she was stationed in New Orleans. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 Phyllis worked as an executive assistant/office manager for the next 30 years retiring in 1976, which is the same year that she moved to Aurora.
Phyllis was a member of the First Christian Church. She travelled extensively after her retirement with her friends and her cousins. Phyllis was an avid reader. She was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews and their families.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two nieces, Linda (Stephen) Wakefield of Dillon, Colo. and Susan (Thomas) Hebert of Minneapolis, Minn.; Jeffry’s widow, Linda Michelsen of Bath, N.H.; two great nieces, Kathleen (Anthony) Strugess of Seattle, Wash. and Whitney Michelsen of Bath, N.H.; a great nephew, Leonard Errera of Newington, Conn.; very good friends, Jean Crump of Minneapolis, Minn. and the Carl and Carol Arent family of Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her only sister, Dorothy Michelsen and nephew, Jeffry Michelsen.
