Eldon Sorensen - March 01, 2012

Eldon Sorensen, 94, of Genoa, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Genoa Community Hospital LTC in Genoa.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at Augustana Lutheran Church with Rev. Juliet Rosi officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, at St Ansgar’s Lutheran Cemetery, Rosenborg, with military honors conducted by Edward H. Larson Post 144 of the American Legion. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ramaekers Patrick Funeral Chapel in Genoa. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church with a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Memorials are suggested to Augustana Lutheran Church.
Eldon was born on March 27, 1917, southwest of Lindsay, to Albert and Christina (Peterson) Sorensen. The family belonged to St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, Rosenborg, where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended rural Platte County schools including Looking Glass School. Eldon farmed in the St. Edward area until joining the Navy. He served in the Navy from Aug. 6, 1942, to Dec. 17, 1945. Eldon returned to farming until 1952 when he moved to Genoa where he worked as a mechanic and parts man at Lawson Motors. In 1961, Eldon began working for Loup Public Power District. He worked as a maintenance man and a dragline operator until his retirement in 1982. Eldon was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 144 in Genoa and the VFW in Columbus.
Eldon is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorene Sorensen of Aurora; nieces Gaye (Mike) Garder of Albion, Darlene Stone of Newman Grove and Gloria (Jerry) Carlson of Aurora; a nephew: Kenneth (Joan) Stone of Lindsay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Christina Sorensen; a sister, Alta Stone and brother, Donald Sorensen.
