Gary Ziegler - January 29, 2012

Gary Ziegler, 74, of Monroe, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Murry Jay Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. There will be family prayer service on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to those of the family choice.
Gary Ziegler was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Genoa, to Daniel and Mildred (Farrar) Ziegler. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1955 and on Feb. 29, 1956, entered the United States Navy. He served on the USS Kearsarge. Gary was honorably discharged on Jan. 27, 1960. Upon his return from the service, Gary went to work at the family business which started in 1922. Gary and his brother Bob purchased the business in the late 1960’s and named it Ziegler Oil Company. In 1988, he sold the business and retired.
On Feb. 21, 1964, Gary and Sharon Obrist were united in marriage at Sharon’s parents home. Gary enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, Husker football, and taking his dog “Star” (Jo) for rides. He loved to tell jokes and was a bit of a prankster. Gary was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon Ziegler of Monroe; son, Dan (Dixie) Ziegler of Aurora; grandchildren, Matthew, Grace, and Noah Ziegler; daughter Tracey (Tom) Bardsley of Beatrice; grandsons – Tommie Jr., Trey, Ty, and Tilden Bardsley; son Michael Ziegler of Lincoln; sister Janice Ziegler of Monroe; sister-in-law, Nancy Ziegler of Monroe; aunts Jean Laudenklos of Monroe and Mary Farrar of Bellevue,; nieces and nephews
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mildred Ziegler; daughter Kelly Ziegler and brother Robert Ziegler
