Keith E. Schwartz - December 29, 2011Keith E. Schwartz, a long-time resident of Loveland, Colo., died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
He was born in Ashland on March 31, 1934, to Harry and Esther (Hammerstrom) Schwartz. Keith grew up in Ashland and attended Ashland Public School and was a member of the United Methodist Church. He married Mildred “Milly” Vosler in 1954 and they raised one daughter, born in 1955, as well as raising one son and one daughter from Milly’s previous marriage.
Keith worked for Beatrice Construction from 1956 into the late 1960s. In 1970, he became self-employed when he purchased a mechanics garage in Chapman, which he operated until 1977. In that year, he and Milly moved to Loveland, Colo. While living in Colorado, he worked for Gurwell Construction Co., Jones Plumbing, Colorado Tractor and Elkhorn Lodge. Following the death of his first wife, Milly, he remarried in 1983. In May of 2011, Keith moved to Aurora to live with his daughter.
As a child, Keith studied the violin with the opportunity to play in the Omaha Philharmonic Orchestra. He taught himself to play the fiddle and guitar. Keith had a passion for playing guitar and singing country western music for enjoyment and entertaining.
He is survived by his step-son Richard “Mo” Dean (Jo) Gakemeier; daughter Marti Ellen (Jeff) Nielsen, all of Aurora; granddaughter Debora (Mike) Gakemeier Irons, Kaiula, Hawaii; grandsons, Lane (Gina) Frerichs, Juniata; Douglas Mason, Antioch, Ill., Keith (Tabbi) Nielsen, Norfolk, Va.; great grandchildren, Micaelee, Max and Nicholas Irons, Jersie and Jeret Frerichs, Cole, Austin and Ty Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; step daughter Destiny Gakemeier Frerichs; and wife Patricia Parks Schwartz.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, 2 p.m. at Marcy Chapel in Ashland, with Pastor John Ewton, clergy; interment Ashland Cemetery; visitation one hour before the service; memorials in care of the family.
