Michael W. Lind - December 26, 2011

Michael W. Lind, 63, died of kidney cancer on Monday, Dec. 26, 20ll, surrounded by his family at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City.
Mike was born to Julian and Dama (Epke) Lind on Nov. 15, 1948 in York. He graduated from York High School in 1967 and joined the U.S. Navy from 1967-1971. He enjoyed his Navy years, especially the three Mediterranean tours.
Mike married Carol Huber in York in 1972. After graduating from UNL her taught upper elementary and middle school grades in the Polk/Hordville/High Plains school system for 28 years. He found great satisfaction in teaching history to middle school students and debating issues with them.
Mike spent many hours working on building projects on their acreage near Polk. His handiwork is reflected throughout the farm, including bridges, decks, and a screenhouse. He also raised a variety of farm animals including donkeys and many types of birds.
Mike was and avid reader, especially westerns. Also included in his interests were the NRA and being a member of the National Knife Collectors Association. He will be remembered for his instant smile and joking nature.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Julian Lind, and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Carol of Polk; mother Dama Lind of York; sister Marsha (John) Nelson of Hastings and their children Zachary, Whitney, and Miles; brother-in-law Dennis (Jaimie) Huber of Lincoln, and step-nephew Clay (Michelle) Stryker of Lincoln; aunt Alice Mae (Everett) Rathje of Gresham; aunt Ardis Epke of Lincoln, and uncle George Lind of Florida.
It was Mike’s wish to be cremated. To honor his wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice, the American Cancer Society, or York Adopt-A-Pet.
