Margaret L. Johnson - December 26, 2011Margaret Lucille Johnson, 96, died at the Hamilton County Memorial Hospital on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Polk on Friday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to services at the church. Interment will be in the Swede Plain Cemetery.
Margaret was born on Oct. 14, 1915 to Charles W. Riddlemoser and Atha E. Newlon. She attended Central City Public Schools where she graduated in 1935.
She was united in marriage to Harlan E. Johnson on Oct. 27, 1937. She worked in the Polk School cafeteria for eight years, the Black Cat, and the Night and Day Cafe in Central City. She later owned the Highway Cafe in Polk as well as the Corner Cafe for more than 22 years until she retired in 1983. That year she was awarded the Sunshine Award from KOLN TV. She also received the Good Neighbor Award from Ak-Sar-Ben in 1978.
Margaret was always ready to help anyone in need. She sent care packages to servicemen and took meals to homebound. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Polk.
Those left to cherish his memory are her children; Edward (Ronda) Johnson of Hastings; Harleen (Earl) Bicknase of Polk; eight grandchildren: Christopher (Samie) Johnson, Collin (Christine) Johnson, Courtney (Ryan) Loeker, Calli Johnson, Jackie (Tom) Staley, Jeff (Mary) Heiden, Joan De Heus, Jason Heiden; and five step-grandchildren: Kimberly (Brad) Mars, Alan (Elaine) Bicknase, Walter (Cherye) Bicknase, Judy Green, Eric (Tracy) Bicknase.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Atha Riddlemoser, a brother John, and two sisters, Violet and Gertrude.
