Duane Blase - December 09, 2011Duane E. Blase, 77, of Hordville, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Village Skilled Care in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk with Rev. Kurt Letcher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com.
Duane was born Dec. 29, 1933, at home in Polk County to Victor A. and Emilie L. (Mueller) Blase. He was baptized on Dec. 31, 1933 and confirmed on March 3, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church School through the eighth grade and graduated from Hordville High School in 1951.
On Feb. 3, 1954, Duane entered the U.S. Army and served in San Antonio, Texas. He was honorably discharged from the military on Feb. 2, 1956.
On June 12, 1955, Duane and Joyce E. Klingsporn were united in marriage. They made their home and farmed near Hordville. Duane retired from farming in 2008.
Duane was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk and had served in all church offices and was active in every phase of church life. He was a member of the American Legion Post 6 in Central City, he served on the Hordville School Board and the Hordville Farmer’s Elevator Board. Duane enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and had built their home as well as helping with remodeling of his daughter’s home.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Hordville; four children, Steven Blase of Genoa, Cindi (Joel) Anderson of Polk, Ron (Donna) Blase of Grand Island and Melanie (Terry) Bender of Hordville; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Erin, Alison, Ian, Brittany, Alexa, Marcus and Alex; and two great-grandchildren, Travis and Brooke;two sisters, Eileen (Wilton) Forsman and Lucile Bengtson, both of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Megan Renee Anderson; daughter-in-law, Donna Blase; and step-mother, Eatheal Blase.
