William Hopkins - September 29, 2011

William Joseph Hopkins, 57, of Washington, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at McKenna Community Church in Roy, Wash. with Pastor Matt Schnetz officiating. Burial will be in Yelm Cemetery.
William was born Feb. 8, 1954 in Aurora to LeRoy and Helen Hopkins. He came from a family of eight boys and was “the seventh son of LeRoy Benjamin Hopkins” as he would say.
He was raised in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School where he enjoyed playing football. He had a variety of jobs, including cooking and managing restaurants. He found carpentry was enjoyable and went to school to further his knowledge. He did the main building of a house and held several jobs in construction. He even helped open an ice cream shop.
Bill eventually settled in Washington. He married Bonnie Hillesland on march 11, 1989. Their daughter, Hannah, was born in 1992 and has brought them incredible joy. They enjoyed taking day trips and working together at McKenna Community Church.
Bill loved people. He served the Lord with gladness and would do anything he could to help others. A short mission trip to Alaska was an answer to prayer. He and Bonnie cooked for the church youth group every week for many years.
He worked for Wilcox Farms for 25 years and briefly for Stiebrs Farms. He was a commissioner for the McKenna Water District for many years. He served on many boards, including church, McKenna PTA and helped out at a lot of organizations like Yelm FFA. He enjoyed being a chaperone for school field trips. He really liked kids and they liked him.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Hannah; father, LeRoy Hopkins; brothers, Franklin (Judy) Hopkins, Robert Hopkins, Larry (Mavis) Hopkinds, James (Jean) Hopkins, Ronald Hopkins, Richard (Jean) Hopkins and Gregory (Ramona) Hopkins; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen and sisters-in-law, Jean and Carol Hopkins.
