Dr. Michael Jones - October 06, 2011

Dr. Michael Jones, 69, of Phillips, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church north of Murphy. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Michael Joel Jones, son of Willis S. and Gladys Ruth (Bouchard Miller) Jones, was born in Portland, Ore. on Aug. 20, 1942.
He grew up in grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1960. Mike continued his education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor of science, masters in biochemistry and nutrition, and a doctorate in dentistry in 1971.
On Aug. 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Jo Schole at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hooper. In 1971, Michael opened the Jones Dental Clinic in Aurora, where he practiced general dentistry for 40 years.
Michael was a member of several dental organizations including: A.D.A., N.D.A., OKU Honorary, Deans Advisory Board, Deans Club, Chancellors Club and U.N.M.C. Alumni Life Member. He served as President for the Central District N.D.A, Precepter at U.N.M.C. for 12 years and as a Clinical Instructor at U.N.M.C. for 12 years.
Michael was a member of the Monroe Evangelical Church and the National Bison Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jo Jones of Phillips; three children, Tamara (Dr. John) Allen of Phillips, Kim (Dr. Frank) McCafferty of Atlanta, Ga. and Dr. Tim (Caroline) Jones of Phillips; seven grandchildren, Ashley and Eric Allen, Samantha, Frankie and Emily McCafferty and Lexi and Sam Jones; mother, Ruth Jones of Aurora and sister, Lynne Tipton of Eufaula, Okla.; brother-in-law, Ben Schole, Jr. of Hooper and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
