Donald R. Pohl - April 09, 2009

Former Phillips resident Donald R. Pohl, 73, of Northglenn, Colo., died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at his home.
Memorial services were held April 14 at Gethsemance Lutheran Church in Northglenn with Pastor Schlechte officiating. Burial was in Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, Colo. Memorials are directed to Gethsemance Lutheran Church, 10675 North Washington St., Northglenn, CO 80233.
Mr. Pohl was born Oct. 24, 1935 to Carl and Bernice (Dadey) Pohl in Olpe, Kan. They moved to Phillips where he graduated from Phillips High School in 1953.
He married his high school sweetheart, Deloris Bailey, and they moved to York, then to Northglenn in 1964.
He worked at the Safeway store in York and numerous stores in Colorado. He worked for Safeway for 47 years, retiring in 2001. At the time of his death, he was working a part-time job doing a route one or two days a week.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing horseshoes, traveling, collecting things and his sports teams -- Nebraska Cornhuskers, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies. Most of all he loved the Lord, his family and friends and his longtime companion, Joy Horrocks.
Survivors include Joy Horrocks of Denver; sons, Brian (Cindy) Pohl of Golden, Colo., Brett (Kim) Pohl of Golden, Colo., Greg Pohl of Denver; daughters, Trudy (Paul) Lopez of Colorado Springs, Teresa (David) DuBose of Chicago; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Pohl of Aurora; two sisters, Carol Kaiser of Grand Island and Connie Larkin of Grand Island; nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dennis Pohl; one sister, Deloris Pohl; one grandson, Tony Lopez.
