Kenneth Wilshusen - September 08, 2011Kenneth William Wilshusen, 83, of Hordville, died at home on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk with Rev. Kurt Letcher officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Central City. Interment is in the Hordville Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post Six in Central City. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com.
Kenneth was born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Hamilton County, to Emil and Hulda (Schnackenberg) Wilshusen. He grew up in the Hordville area, received his early education at Immanuel Lutheran Church School and graduating from Polk High School in 1946. After graduation, Kenneth farmed in the Hordville area and then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and served in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the military, Kenneth returned to Hordville.
On Aug. 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Donna Marie Nelson in Wenatchee, Wash. They made their home in the Hordville area where they farmed and had a dairy herd. In 1994, they moved into Hordville and Kenneth retired from farming in 1998.
He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and in his retirement, he enjoyed going to the coffee shop.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Hordville; four sons, Allen and Tammy of Hebron, Larry and Barb of Hordville, Russell and Terri of Humphrey and Kevin and Renee of Hordville; one daughter, Sheri and Jason Wert of Hordville; two sisters, Rosella Person and Annette Schulze both of Central City; 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Hailey, Mikaela, Joshua, Alyssa, Bryce, and Brianna Wilshusen and Blake, Logan, Seth and Kenzie Wert; and one step-grandson, Matt Gersib; stepsister, Lorraine Mundt and stepbrother, Lester Henning, both of Crete.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Hulda Wilshusen; his stepmother, Alma Henning Wilshusen; two sisters, Louise Blase and Doris Roehrs; and an infant brother.
