Eleanor Stromberg - August 15, 2011

Eleanor Irene Stromberg, 91, of Polk, died at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Polk with Rev. Daniel Spearow officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt Funeral Home in Polk. Burial is in the Polk Cemetery. Solt Funeral Home of Polk is in charge of the arrangements. Eleanor was born on March 25, 1920, in Aurora to Roy and Myrtle (Entrekin) Davenport. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1938 and on Nov. 15, 1941, she married Lloyd N. Stromberg in Friend. Eleanor and Lloyd owned and operated the City Grocery and Market in Polk and expanded the store in 1945. They retired in 1974 and continued to live in Polk. Lloyd died on April 16, 1987.
Eleanor moved from Polk to the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg in 2009.
For over 50 years, Eleanor was a member of the United Methodist Church in Polk and the United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star Willanna Chapter in Polk, the Polk Woman’s Club, Garden Club and Senior Center and she loved to cook and bake.
Survivors include her son, Gary (JoAnn) Stromberg of Anchorage, Ala.; her daughter-in-law, Gert Stromberg of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Tara Prochko, Clark Stromberg, Destin Greeley, Sonya Jurgens and Heather Fox; two great-grandsons, Jarod C. Fox and Brandon Arlan Fox; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; her son, Arlan Stromberg, in 2001; and one sister.
