Thomas Kermit Hermansen, 79, of Cassville, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Cassville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Thomas Kermit Hermansen, son of Thomas Sigvardt and Clara Marie (Rasmussen) Hermansen, was born in Howard County on Nov. 25, 1931.
Kermit grew up in Texas and Nebraska. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1949. Following his graduation he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1952-1956. Following his discharge he attended Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kermit married Charlene Ann Ross on June 30, 1957 at Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Colorado where he attended Trinidad College where he earned his nursing degree. Kermit and Charlene later owned and operated various businesses including a diner, nursing homes, farms, grocery store and a café in various states in the Midwest.
He enjoyed life on the farm, traveling and his family and friends.
Kermit was a life member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rex Hermansen and sisters Selma Sorensen, Alpha Christensen and Shirley Andersen.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Hermansen of Cassville, Mo.; sons, Lance (Scherry) Hermansen of Grand Island, Wade (Christy) Hermansen of Cassville, Mo. and James (Diane) Oldham of Monett, Mo.; daughters, Shelley Hermansen Crowther of Pierce City, Mo., Terri Hermansen and David George of Pierce City, Mo. and Tracie (Rick) Hermansen Chochon of Columbus; grandchildren, Kristen Hermansen-Ryan, Jessica Brondel, Allyn Komorowski, Thomas Hermansen, Leslie Oldham, Clint Crowther, Lacy Crowther, Colt Crowther, Shane George, Hannah George, Bryan Chochon, David Chochon, Aaron Chochon, Christopher Chochon, Eric Chochon, Clara Hermansen, Andrew Hermansen and Olivia Hermansen; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Leif Hermansen; sister, Barbara Handrup; several nieces and nephews.
