Laurel Larsen - June 18, 2011

Laurel Larsen, 86, of Hampton, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, at the United Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at United Lutheran Church in Hampton.

Alvin Laurel Larsen was born on August 20, 1924 on the farm where he resided until his death. He was the son of Alvin Herman (Jack) and Vesta Larsen.
Laurel married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Shirley Helen Faber, on Sept. 1, 1946. Two children were born to them, Marcia and Marla.
Laurel farmed with his dad until his death in 1958. He continued farming until his retirement at the age of 62. The farm has been in the Larsen family for over 100 years.
Laurel was a lifetime member of the United Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council for many years. Laurel served on the Hampton School Board and was a member of the Lyons Club in Hampton. He participated in many community activities over the years.
He loved fishing, spending the winter months in Texas, golfing with the ‘Old Timers,’ auctions, visiting with cousins and friends; and of course time with family.
Laurel took pride in working on his old machinery and being able to keep it running.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Hampton; two daughters, Marcia (Merlin) Fick of Ashland and Marla (Bob) Kirk of Grand Island; grandchildren, Brenda and her husband Jim, Stephanie and her husband Kent, Warren and his wife Laura, Todd, Renee and her husband Wayne, Ronda and her husband Chad; and 14 great-grandchildren.
