Verla Ketchum - June 14, 2011

Verla Ketchum, 70, of Aurora, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jim Garfield will officiate. No visitation.

Verla Ketchum, daughter of James and Lucille (Roberts) Strong, was born in San Diego, Calif. on Dec. 5, 1940.
When Verla was three years old, she moved to Nebraska with her brother Jim and they were adopted by Robert and Charlotte (Roberts) Killion.
She attended Country School District #64 until the 7th grade. Verla graduated from Aurora High School in 1958, where she was in the first class to graduate from the new Aurora High School.
Verla married Robert Clyde Ketchum on Aug. 17, 1974 at Twenty Nine Palms, Calif..
Verla worked for Chief Industries and retired in 1998 after 26 years of service in the drapery department and small part assembly division. Robert died on May 13, 2002.
Verla was very proud of her family’s service to their country. Bob Killion was in the Navy serving in France during WWI, Jim Strong was also in the Navy during WWII and later in the Merchant Marines, brother Jim Killion was in the Navy, husband Bob Ketchum served in the Marine Corps during Vietnam and son Bobby Ketchum served in the National Guard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include her son, Bobby (Debbie) Ketchum of Aurora; daughters, Melissa Wey of Omaha and Kristi Ketchum of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Robbie and Darbi Ketchum of Aurora; brother, James Killion of Florida and her cat Tuffy.
