Avis Hopkins - May 16, 2011

Avis Dorlene Hopkins, 81, of Brunswick, Ga., died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Graveside services were Saturday, May 21 at the Aurora Cemetery. Pastor Jim Garfield officiated. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Avis Dorlene Hopkins, daughter of George W. and Adella (Deming) Jankovitz, was born in rural Hamilton County on June 21, 1929.
She grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1947. Following her graduation, she worked for the Aurora Phone Company. Dorlene was a Navy housewife and they moved from base to base. She lived in Aurora for around 10 years and then moved to Brunswick, Ga. to be near her daughter in 1994.
Dorlene enjoyed spending time with her family. During her free times in Georgia she volunteered at the nursing homes in Brunswick.
Survivors include her daughter, Terri (Tim) Wood of Brunswick, Ga.; son, Randy (Melanie) Hopkins of Walnut Creek, Calif.; six grandchildren, Michelle Whatley, Chris Hanover, Stephanie Sutton, Kimberly Smith, James Hopkins and Thomas Hopkins and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Geroge and Adella Jankovitz, and her son, Arthur Lynn Hanover.
