Virgil Lauhead - January 08, 2011

Virgil Vernon “Bud” Lauhead, 78, of Casa Grande, Ariz., died Jan. 8, 2011 at his home in Casa Grande.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. in the Assembly of God Church in Aurora with Pastor Ted Bird officiating. Burial will be in the Auroar Cemetery following services.
Mr. Lauhead was born Aug. 3, 1932 in Elwood to Joseph “Beryl” and Mary Lauhead. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served on submarines. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was honorably discharged from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer in 1968.
He then drove for North American Van Lines electronic fleet for 20 years, driving all over the United States and making one trip through Canada to Alaska. He retired in 1992.
Virgil married Gertrude Ilene Tate of Elwood on Sept. 17, 1954. To this union three sons were born -- Ronald, Richard and Robert. Gertrude died Jan. 20, 1991.
Virgil married Gladys Bird of Aurora on Oct. 22, 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys, at home; sons Ronald, Richard and Robert Lauhead, all of California; three brothers, Lavern Lauhead of Cheyenne, Wyo., Roger Lauhead of Wauneta and Richard Lauhead of St. Paul, Minn.; five sisters, Betty White of Kearney, Donna Williams of Garnett, Kan., Bonnie Ives of Cheyenne, Wyo., Lois Lyons of Gibbon and Janet Ourdoda of Kearney; three grandchildren in California; five stepchildren, Terry Bird of Giltner, Ted Bird of Rapid City, S.D., Candy Carmin of Doniphan, Sandy Heuer of Lincoln and Todd Bird of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude; his parents and one sister, Golda Hermrick.
