Betty Mae Varela - February 15, 2011

Betty Mae Varela, 89, a former resident of East Park Villa in Aurora, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2010 in Omaha.
A memorial service will be held at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora on Saturday, march 5 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Karl Larson officiating.
Betty Mae Adcock was born Feb. 11, 1922 in Chicago, Ill. She completed her education through junior college in the Chicago area.
In 1942, she married Robert T. Varela in San Bernadino, Calif. She was a supportive military wife during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Varela died in 2002.
Although traveling to numerous military bases, Betty was employed in a variety of occupations, including school secretary, television show hostess and office manager in a dental office.
She was a member of PEO, a dedicated volunteer at the VA Hospital in Omaha for many years and was involved in several philanthropic organizations in the Omaha area.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Omaha until moving to East Park Villa in 2003. She served in many capacities in the church. While living in Aurora, she attended the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Betty enjoyed doing oil paintings and also china painting. She loved to entertain and enjoyed being involved in many social activities.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Jeffrey) Smith of Omaha and Jill (Michael) Owens of Aurora; four grandchildren, Scott Smith of St. Louis, Mo., Shelby (Rob) Foral of Omaha, Jason Owens of Kearney and Ashlee (Mitch) Waring of Lincoln; and eight great-grandchildren.
