Rachel Gustafson - February 12, 2011Rachel Gustafson, 84, of Aurora, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church north of Murphy. Pastor Marshall Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Monroe Evangelical Free Church.

Rachel Rowena (Hendricks) Gustafson, daughter of Melvin and Edith (Anderson) Hendricks, was born at Holdrege on July 24, 1926.
Rachel graduated from Bertrand High School. She taught country school in Phelps County for three years.
Rachel was united in marriage to Eugene Gustafson on Aug. 19, 1946 at the Holcomb Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. She was a devoted wife to Gene for 64 years. Rae was a loving mother to her children and their spouses, and a grandmother involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was never happier than when her home was filled with family and friends.
Rae was a member of the Monroe Evangelical Free Church and served in various capacities including deaconess, Women’s Ministry, Missions Committee and small group ministry. Her special passion was missions. Rae was a volunteer for the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Cross. Many have benefited from her hospitality over the years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Hendricks; mother, Edith Anderson Hendricks; and step-mother, Virginia Holm Hendricks.
Survivors include her husband Gene Gustafson of Aurora; four daughters, Sue (Angus) McDonald of Chesapeake, Va., Leanne (Steve) Morris of Grand Island, Linda (John) Spriegel of Bomet, Kenya and Jill (Dean) Carlson of Kenosha, Wisc.; two sons, Steve (Marilyn) Gustafson of Aurora and Andrew Gustafson and fiancé Celeste Harvey of Omaha; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Holmberg of Aurora and sister-in-law, Delores (Rodney) Wendell.
