Edgar “Sonny” Rasmussen, 78, of Marquette, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at Aurora Memorial Hospital in Aurora..
Memorial services will be Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Paul Blanchard officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Edgar was born on Oct. 4, 1932 in Central City to Edgar and Vera (Parsons) Rasmussen. He grew up in Central City, attending North and Southward Schools. He graduated from Central City High School in 1950. He entered the United States Navy on March 19, 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 19, 1955.
He married Betty L. Spencer on June 10, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Central City. The couple made their home in Norfolk, Va.; Portsmouth, Va.; Key West, Fla.; Central City, Neb.; and finally rural Marquette. Edgar was employed by Jim’s Market, Hoops Trucking in Grand Island, Overland Sand and Gravel, and the United States Postal Service in Central City. He retired on Dec. 1, 1990.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Lone Tree Post #6 of Central City. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RV traveling and wood carving.
He is survived by his wife Betty of rural Marquette; one son, Terry (Eileen) Rasmussen of Central City; one daughter, Vicki John Jr.) Boord of Grand Island; two grandsons, Daniel Boord of Omaha and Joshua Boord of Grand Island; and one step grandson,Jonathan Boord of Vail, Colo.; one brother, Morris “Babe” Rasmussen of Central City and one sister, Jeanne (Roger) Schroeder of Holbrook.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Don Glantz; and one grandchild, Kristen Murphy.
