Robert Gimpel - November 16, 2010

Robert Gimpel, 76, of Aurora, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora. Rev. Bob Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6. Robert Arthur Gimpel, son of Arthur and Gladys (Ranard) Gimpel, was born on the family farm northeast of Giltner on May 14, 1934. He graduated from Giltner High School in 1952. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
Bob married Dianne Bossen on Aug. 23, 1959 at Grand Island. They lived on the family farm south of Aurora, where Bob farmed until he retired in 1995.
Bob was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church. His passion was restoring antique International tractors to their working condition. Bob liked going to antique tractor and farm shows. He was a member of the Big Red Tractor Club and the Lone Tree Tractor Club in Central City. Bob also enjoyed watching his sons, grandson and nephews race stock cars at Mid-Nebraska Speedway.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Gimpel of Aurora; four children, Greg (Leanne) Gimpel of Aurora, Jeff Gimpel of Giltner, Dale Gimpel of Hastings and Sharon (William) Brooks of Omaha; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Garry (Arlene) Gimpel and Larry (Elaine) Gimpel all of Aurora and two sisters, Ruth Ann Decker of Grand Island and Lucille Thompsen of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Cody Harden, brother, Dean Gimpel and sister, Betty McNerney.
