Karl Schwarz - December 29, 2009

Karl F. Schwarz, 88, of Central City, formerly of Denver, died at his home on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Msg. Nelson Newman officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Arborville Cemetery near Polk.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1921, in Binzwagen, Germany to Anton and Maria (Grum) Schwarz. He grew up in Germany, where he completed his education and was trained as a pastry chef. In 1952, he came to America and he and his wife, Brenda, made their home in the Denver area. He was a pastry chef for United Airlines for 33 years. He won many awards for his creations and was a well-known sugar blower. He and his wife moved to Central City in August of 2007.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Arvada, Colo. and after moving to Central City, he became a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He belonged to the Barbarosa Lodge and the Chef ‘de Cuisine Association. He was a skilled hand carver, an avid fisherman and hunter; but his family was always first in his life and he had a special love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Schwarz of Central City; daughter, Tamara (Alan) Merchant of Polk; son, Erich (Kelli) Schwarz of Arvada, Colo.; five grandchildren, Ben, Josh and Caleb Merchant, Jessica Ellis and Marie Rhoades; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother in Germany; and two cousins in Denver.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elizabeth Mary Schwarz; infant granddaughter, Bethany Rae Merchant; two sisters and one brother.
