David Smith - December 27, 2009

David G. Smith, 43, of Aurora, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at Zion Lutheran Church north of Hampton. Rev. Loren Cooper will officiate. Burial will be at Hampton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hampton Lutheran School. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
David Guy Smith, son of Gerald and Judy (Miller) Smith, was born in Baker, Ore. on Oct. 7, 1966. He grew up in Baker, Ore. and the family later moved to Ansley where he graduated from Ansley High School in 1984. He also attended Kearney State College for a short time.
He married Beverly Johnson on Jan. 25, 1986. They settled in Aurora in 1991. He worked in various health care facilities including working at Memorial Hospital. He taught classes for the American Red Cross. This last fall he helped coach the Grand Island Heartland Lutheran football team. He also served on the Hampton Lutheran School Board.
He loved his children. Hampton Lutheran School was his great passion. He also enjoyed his cars.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Smith of Aurora; two children, Ethan and Courtney Smith, both of Aurora; parents, Gerald and Judy Smith of Gothenburg; twin brother, Rick (Julie) Smith of Kearney; brother, Brad Smith of California; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gwyn and Kathy Johnson of Hampton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brad and Marsha Johnson of North Platte; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy and Bill Blender of Grand Island; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and paternal grandparents.
