Eugene Nekl - December 10, 2009

Eugene “Nick” Nekl, 86, of Shelby, died Dec. 10, 2009 at the Osceola Good Samaritan Society in Osceola.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 14 at Shelby Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby with Father John Rooney officiating. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery.
Eugene Nekl was born Feb. 23, 1923 in Butler County at Appleton, to James and Nettie (Fucek) Nekl. He was the 10th child of 11 born to this family.
He attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Rising City High School.
During WWII he worked at San Diego at the Military Defense plant. He then returned to Shelby where he farmed west and south of Rising City, raised and worked with cattle all of his life. He loved driving the trucks to haul the cattle.
On May 8, 1951 he married Joanne Feeser.
Survivors include his wife Joanne of Shelby; four children, Rick (Debra) Nekl of Shelby, Becky (Michael) Voss of Shelby, Dixie (Timothy) Gutz of Columbus, Reg (Bonnie) Nekl of Shelby; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one brother Neal Nekl of Rising City; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nettie; sisters Mildred, Cecelia, Mary and Rose; brothers George, Robert, James Ralph and Bill.
