John Wiener - December 11, 2009

John D. Wiener, 70, of Aurora, died Friday, Dec.11, 2009 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aurora with Pastors Jim Nichols and Dennis Berlin officiating. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
John was born March 11, 1939 in Lincoln to Evan Robert “Jim” and Mary Vesta (Riggle) Wiener. He grew up in Lincoln and attended Union College Academy and Lincoln East High, graduating in 1965. He continued his education at Southeast Community College.
He married Carol Lynn Hoffman on Nov. 15, 1967 at North side Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lincoln. John was part-owner (along with his father) of a Texaco Service Station in Lincoln for seven years. He worked at Union College Furniture Factory, Montgomery Wards as a brake mechanic, and Century Manufacturing in Aurora as a lathe operator from 1972-1989 when he had to retire due to a back disability.
John was very active in his church and frequently sang special music there. He held several offices including deacon, personal ministries leader, religious liberty secretary, communications, Sabbath School teacher, and sound system operator. He also was a member and was active in Hamilton County A.R.C.
His hobbies include photography, computer, stamp collecting, coin collecting, music and fishing. He enjoyed growing roses, working on cars and “fixing” things.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Wiener of Aurora; two sons, John Robert Wiener of Aurora and Kevin S. Wiener of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Jennifer J. (Shane) Olson of Aurora; three grandchildren, Christian A.J. Olson, Devon L.M. Olson and Shaylyn A.S. Olson; and one sister, Gail L. Herlan of Fresno, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
