Leland Larsen - November 14, 2009

Former Marquette resident Leland “Lee” Larsen, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the First United Methodist Church, Columbus, with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in McKown Funeral Home in Columbus and continues Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Leland “Lee” Larsen was born September 30, 1923 in Marquette to Harold and Ida (Danhauer) Larsen. He attended school in Marquette. Because of his love for riding horses, he left school at age 15 and moved to Columbus where he lived and worked for M.H. Van Berg. While in Columbus he met Mildred Poole. The couple traveled the horse race circuit together and while in Chicago were married on Oct. 24, 1953. In 1956 they moved back to Columbus where he worked for Becton-Dickinson for 26 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. He loved horses, dancing, fishing, yardwork and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred “Millie” Larsen of Columbus; daughter, Deb (Bob) Kirstine of Lincoln and their children Jeremy and Jason; son: Dolan (Bonnie) Larsen of Columbus and their children Nikki (Jon) Preister, Kara Larsen and Joey Larsen; daughter, Penny (Rick) Johnson of Columbus, and their son Bill (Angie) Johnson; sister, Vivian (Ole) Alberts of Aurora; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; one grandson, Erin Johnson; two sisters and two brothers.
