He grew up in the Kronborg area on the family farm located five miles east of Marquette. He was in the Army during World War II from January 1943 to January 1946 where he served in Hawaii and Okinawa.
He married Evelyn E. Larsen on March 1, 1946 in Marquette and farmed the homestead where he raised his family of four. He farmed, had a Grade A dairy for many years, worked for the Hamilton County Roads Department and drove the school bus for Marquette Consolidated School. His wife died on March 8, 1995.
On July 27, 1996 he married Verlene Anderson of Polk. He then moved from his home in Kronborg to Polk, where he resided until his wife died in 2008.
He was well known for his integrity, honesty and straight forwardness as well as his humor, stories, antics and dancing abilities.
