Viola Marie Beck Johnston - November 05, 2009

Viola Marie Beck Johnston, 89, of Grand Island formerly of Clarks, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 9 in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Valjean Warman officiating. Burial was in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel.
She was born June 5, 1920, in Merrick County to Leslie Lloyd and Jessie May (Hanks) Tyler. She attended rural Merrick County schools and graduated from Hordville High School. She worked for the Merrick County AAA for several years.
On May 1, 1942 she married Harold L. Beck in Inglewood, Calif.. They farmed near Clarks. Harold died on March 23, 1980.
She married Walter Johnston on May 31, 1986. She lived on the home place until moving to Grand Island in December of 2006. Walt died on July 18, 2008.
She was a member of the Clarks United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She later transferred her membership to Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church and for many years she provided the church with flowers from her garden. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, gardening, flowers, dancing and traveling and had been a 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include her children, Leslie Beck of Clarks, Lynn Beck of Godfrey, Ill., Shannon Zegar of Grand Island; Shelli and Bob Voichoskie of Silver Creek and Sheri Topinka of Grand Island; two brothers, Paul Tyler of Archer and Joe (Donna) Tyler of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren.
