Vern Tindall - October 30, 2009

Former Aurora resident Vern D. Tindall, Jr., 87, of Hastings, died Friday, Oct.30, 2009 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island.

He was born Jan. 29, 1922 in Lincoln to Vern and Gladys (Gregg) Tindall, Sr. He graduated from Lincoln High School. He joined the Army in 1942 and was in World War II. He was discharged from the Army in 1946.
He married Verna Marion Lien on May 2, 1943 in Ft. Leonardwood, Mo. In 1953, they moved from Aurora to Lincoln and then moved to Hastings in 1960. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer and retired in 1983.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Burlington Veterans and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sharon Kay Carpenter of Hastings; one son, John Robert (Ev) Tindall of Hastings; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; one brother, Greg Tindall of Branson, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna Marion (Lien) Tindall; two sisters, Jo Coleman and Jerry Worster; and one son-in-law.
