Clifford Blankenship - October 20, 2009

Clifford G. Blankenship, 88 of York, died Tuesday, Oct.20, 2009 at Lincoln.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 24 at the New Life Church of the Nazarene in York with the Revs. Stephen Sheets and Tom James officiating. Military graveside services were Monday, Oct. 26 at the Holdenville Cemetery, Holdenville, Okla.
He was born June 16, 1921 in Sasakwa, Okla to Emmit Monroe and Laura (Perry) Blankenship. Over the years, he worked at several different jobs including oil field drilling, owner/operator of his own trucking company, car salesman, and sales representative for Bush-Hog Manufacturing.
He served his country as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1942 to1945. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge as well as four other major battles. He earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
He married Nellie Jean Holt on Nov. 3, 1950 at Mena, Ariz.. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Holdenville, Okla. as well as a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, horseback riding and, most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Nellie of York; daughters, Billie (Gary) Matlock of York, and Debra Blankenship of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jay Matlock of York, Dana Matlock of Aurora, Colo., Clifton Matlock of Lincoln Candy (James) Prendenville of Round Rock, Texas, Troy (Rebecca) Smoc of Ahwanee, Calif.; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Polly Middleton of Tulsa, Okla. and Janis (Gene) Chaney of Oilton, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
