Phyllis Bieck - October 04, 2009

Harvard resident Phyllis Elaine (Shear) Bieck, 95, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at the Harvard Rest Haven.
Phyllis was born July 17, 1914, to Clyde and Elsie (Craney) Shear in Peabody, Kan. She graduated from Bradshaw High School and worked at the dime store in York and the telephone office in Hastings. She married Edie Volz on Sept. 12, 1938; he passed away Sept. 18, 1940. On Feb. 14, 1946 she married Alfred John Bieck. He passed away Oct. 6, 1985. Phyllis and Al were loyal Nebraska football fans.
Phyllis had many joys in life that she loved. She was a member of the Harvard United Church of Christ and was a leader for the youth group, held many offices in the church and baked many pies for their various projects. She was very active for the Republican Party, the Cancer Society and the Red Cross.
Phyllis loved her flower and vegetable gardens and she raised beautiful peonies and canned many quarts of vegetables and fruits from their garden and trees.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Lorene Shear, nieces Connie Bussinger and husband Erny and Bonnie Slaymaker, all of Scottsbluff; niece, Julie Aksendahl of Montana; and many other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews on both her side and her husband’s sides.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Edie and Alfred; two brothers, Clyde and wife Fern and Kenneth Shear, and one sister, Arlyss (Bob) Brooks.
Memorials may be given to the Harvard United Church of Christ, or the Harvard Rest Haven, both in Harvard.
