Jean Bister - September 04, 2009

Jean Bister, age 87, of Aurora, died Sept. 4, 2009, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Mamre Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Jean Bister, daughter of Joseph Edward and Elisabeth (Cochran) Wilson, was born in Cushing on March 23, 1922.
She graduated from Cushing High School Class of 1940, where she was valedictorian. She attended Kearney State Teachers College for two years, where she earned a teaching certificate. She taught school in Harvard, Buffalo and Hamilton counties.
On Aug. 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) G. Bister at the Methodist Church in St. Paul. She worked for the U.S. Government in the O.P.A offices in St. Paul and Grand Island. After they moved to Marquette, she worked at Memorial Hospital and worked as an Avon representative. Her husband died June 29, 1997.
She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. She had taught bible school for many years and was past president of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She was also past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. She was a member of the Marquette Lioness Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.
Survivors include her three children, Larry Bister of Minnow Oneca Falls, Wisc., Twyla Hill of Lincoln and Steve (Nancy) Bister of Lenexa, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
